The Lost Gods of Cureal
Great War of the Two Kingdoms
It is said that the war began when slavers from the Ashut Kingdom raided a village within the boundaries of the Great Kingdom of Cureal, taking hundreds captive and killing the rest. Although this had happened several times before, the Great Kingdom had recently made an alliance with the Golden Provinces, and felt that with their backing it was finally time to put a stop to their barbaric ways of slavery. So the Merchant’s Guild leaders set up a council meeting with the King of Ashut and his advisers to demand the return of their people and an agreement to put an end to the raiding of villages in their territories. Unfortunately, a certain assassin was hired by an unknown party to put an end to these negotiations. He assassinated the head of the Merchant’s Guild, and the dignitaries of the Great Kingdom blamed the Ashut leaders. In the ensuing fallout, the Great Kingdom declared on Ashut, pulling the Golden Provinces along with them. The war lasted over a hundred years, with the Ashut Kingdom gaining territory with victory after victory, capturing 90% of the Great Kingdom’s territory and pushing to the borders of the Golden Provinces. It was at this point that General Frederick of the Golden Provinces took command of the collective armies. Under his leadership, and aided by the high-quality arms forged by The Ulrick Family’s black smiths, they were able to push back the Ashut Kingdom to their original borders. At this time the leaders of the three kingdoms came together and negotiated an uneasy peace treaty, restoring boundaries to their original state, but transforming the Golden Provinces into the Golden Kingdom we know today.
